Jacqueline Carey's Alternate Europe

When you look at the map, you can almost immediately see that Jaqueline Carey based the world in her books on the excisting Europe.
I'm also planning to write some background information on the various places and countries, and where the names come from.

I've made a list of the countries and places.

Countries
The Flatlands- The Benelux(The Netherlands, Luxembourg, Belgium. I live in the southwest of The Netherlands myself)
Skaldia -Either parts of Russia, Scandinavia and Germany
Terre D'Ange - France
Alba - Great Brittain
Eire - Ireland
Aragonia - Spain(Aragon was a Spanish kingdom)
Caerdicca Unitas - Italy
Kriti - Crete
Hellas - Greece
Carthage - Carthage was not situated there, the reall Carthage can be found in the outskirts of Tunis.
Nubia -Sudan
The Umaiyyat - Saoedi Arabia
Menekhet - Egypt
The Chowat-
Ephesus - Mediterranean city
Saba
- Saba is the Arabic rendering of Sheba, a country mentioned as part of the story of king Solomon, who supposedly married or had an affair with its queen. The actual location of the country is disputed but is generally agreed to be located just south of Ethiopia or around Yemen. As far as the books go the first location is the one used, a combination of Uganda and Tanzania.
Thanks to Max!
Drujan - Located in the site of modern Azerbaijan, although there doesn't appear to have ever been a city at the location of Darsãnga. The religion is drawn from that of Persia, which probably controlled that area at some point.
Thanks to Max!
Jebe-Barkal - The description is heavily based on Ethiopia although the borders of the country have been expanded to include Somalia, Eritrea, Djibouti and a large part of the southern Sudan. Since up until colonial divisions the Sudan was split between Egypt and Ethiopia with the border at Khartoum (Meroë) the borders are fair enough.

Khebbel-Im-Akkad - "Since you don't have an entry for Khebbel-im-Akkad you might also want to throw that in, might I reccomend mentioning the meaning (Akkad that is reborn), it's reference to the Akkadian empire which came between Sumerian and Persian control of the area and that it is a  combination of Syria, Israel, Jordan, Iraq, Iran and Turkmenistan with a combination of Arab and Babylonian culture"
A quote from Max, which has been very helpful! Thank you!
